The Struggle for Truth

Hey friends!! SO many of us struggle with accepting the truth that God has for us in the bible. We struggle with understanding what scripture means. We struggle in understanding that pain will happen, we are not yet free from struggle. We simply struggle understanding that truth is for us.

I recorded a podcast episode to encourage us all in God’s true love for us. I generalized some statements from all of you, about your struggle with truth and am using them to shed light on our struggle for truth.

Some tangible ways to study and understand scripture

  1. Truly meditate on scripture. A devotional everyday is not going to cut it. We must have our own encounters with the LORD. Open the bible and read through scripture. Allow for God to speak straight to you and your heart. Devotionals are a good supplement to your encounter with God, but you must begin to encounter Him on your own and grow in your personal understanding of Him.

A way to begin doing this is understanding the context of when this scripture was written so that you know the audience the author was speaking to.

  2. Surround yourself with people who are in the same place you are spiritually, ahead of you spiritually and then reach out the the people behind you in your walk and bring them along as well. It’s important to have people around who are going through the same things we are so that we know we are not alone. We must have people ahead of us so that they can help guide us and mentor us in your spiritual walk. They give us wisdom. And lastly we should have people who are not as advanced as us spiritually or do not even know Christ, so that our faith can be tested and grown.

If you are struggling in your relationships

  1. Pray and ask God to give you heart to love these people. This will drastically change the posture of your heart. When we do this, we begin to understand that we all are sinners and we can’t expect for the people around us to be perfect. When we begin to pray for the people who offend us, we start to live more humbly.

  2. If you are in unhealthy relationships, it is okay to leave the friendship. It is also important that we are vulnerable with the other person and let them know why we are spending so much time with them any more. You have to do what is going to keep your heart healthy and focused on Him. So if your relationships are not leading closer to Him, it is okay to distance yourself.

  3. Pray that God would bring you nourishing relationships. In the time between letting go of unhealthy relationships and gaining new Christ strengthening relationships, spend time focusing on God’s heart for you and your relationships!!

“It’s difficult to trust in God’s word when you’re literally hanging on for dear life.”

Let me just say that in the moments when you feel like you are holding on for dear life.. These are the moments in which your faith is being stretched. No matter how long that may last. God’s love meets you there!! Hold fast to Him. Stay in His word. Surround yourself with believers who are strong in their faith!
